Prodigy Wrestlers came out to compete at Lakota West on Saturday and they did not disappoint. In a dominating performance, Prodigy added 18 state qualifiers to the 3 that qualified in Marysville to make the Prodigy State Qualifier count jump to 21 so far.
Prodigy did not just get their first OAC Grade school District Champion of the season, they got their first FIVE district Champions! District Champions for Prodigy were Camden Hunter, Houston Adams, Davide Keirn, Garrett Plummer, and Layne Smith. These wrestlers went to work this weekend, not being denied what they have been training for. Time to train harder as the goal gets bigger! Twelve more wrestlers punched their ticket to the OAC Grade school state tournament by placing in the top 4 at Districts. Tytus Frahm (2nd), Kolby Williams (2nd), Adler Olberding (2nd), Korbin Downey (2nd), Ethan White (3rd), Parker White (3rd), Malachi Hundley (3rd), Brady Staggs (3rd), Oscar Horning (3rd), David Arens (4th), Kolby Pomeroy (4th), Owen Kairn (4th) and Vincent Black (4th) fought their way to podium, qualifying for the OAC State Tournament in March. Now we work to get on that podium at the end of the year. Prodigy had even more District Placers, with six wrestlers that placed 5th or 6th. These wrestlers are considered state alternates, should someone drop out. They can decide to try to qualify at another one of the upcoming districts. Seth Combs (5th), Magnus Rajala (5th), Jordan Wilkerson (5th), Mason King (6th), Zach Ryan (5th), and Jason Wilkerson (5th) wrestled a great tournament. I am so proud of these wrestlers for continuing to wrestle hard all the way the 5th and 6th place match. They gave everything they had and should be proud of how they competed. We are! Three more wrestlers competed but fell short of their goals...this time. These wrestlers came and competed with the best that Southwest (and many from other parts of the state) has to offer. They can hold their heads up because they stepped on the line and competed, when their are many wrestlers who never dare to do that. Getting out of your comfort zone and competing with top level competition is what will make you better over time. Foster Sanders (2-2), Seth Johnson (2-2), and Bentley Scott (0-2) did just that and we are so proud of you for it! Keep working and trust the process because your time will be here soon! I can't convey just how proud I am of each and every one of these wrestlers. Most importantly, I am proud of how each of these wrestlers represented themselves with class and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. They continue to become a TEAM each and every week! Congrats to all!
